About this property

Welcome to Hotel Lunata

Hotel Lunata offers a warm, low-key atmosphere with rooms featuring hand-painted details that add character and charm. Guests can enjoy a quiet garden and an onsite bar, creating a peaceful retreat from the lively surroundings. The bathrooms and décor have been noted for their unique style and thoughtful design, contributing to a comfortable stay.

Located on Playa del Carmen’s bustling 5th Avenue, the hotel places visitors within easy reach of popular attractions including public beaches, street food vendors, and shopping areas like Quinta Avenida and Fundadores Park. The central setting is ideal for exploring lively nightlife and cultural activities, while also offering nearby nature excursions such as visits to Xcaret and Xplor Parks.

Guest reviews consistently highlight the helpful and friendly staff as a strong point, as well as the convenient location and comfortable accommodations. However, the hotel’s position on a busy street means that noise from nightlife and nearby bars can be significant, especially at night; rooms overlooking the garden may provide some relief from this. Practical amenities include air conditioning, refrigerator, and a safe, adding to the overall value of the stay.

As an LGBTQ+ friendly property, Hotel Lunata welcomes a diverse range of travelers. It suits those looking for a central base to explore Playa del Carmen’s vibrant scene, who are prepared for some street noise in exchange for proximity to the action and an authentic local experience. Check-in is from 15:00, with check-out at noon, facilitating a flexible daily schedule.

Lovely boutique hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Nice relaxing garden at the back. Only draw back is it’s right on the main boulevard and can get very loud at night and into the morning

Such a gem of a hotel! Unfortunately my husband and I were recovering from food poisoning throughout our stay here so we ended up spending a lot of time at the hotel. The rooms are so well decorated, the bathroom is especially nice and I loved the little balcony. The staff were very sympathetic to our plight and friendly. They even gave us some peppermint tea to soothe our stomaches. The hotel also provides a simple breakfast which was nice — toast and some cereal. I had a garden view room so the noise wasn't as bad. That being said, the hotel is on the Main Street so you really can't avoid noise no matter what hotel you stay in. There's loud music blaring from restaurants until very late into the night along the entire street. But earplugs and the garden view helped for me. Overall, loved this hotel!

We spent a total of 10 days at the Hotel Lunata and therefore probably made the best possible choice. The hotel is very centrally located on 5th Avenue, the main shopping and bar street in Playa del Carmen. Furthermore, the public beach is less than a 5-minute walk and the bus station less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. This central location also explains the only drawback I can mention. Because of the bars in the neighborhood, it's regularly very noisy until the early hours of the morning. The hotel also has rooms facing the garden, which are supposedly considerably quieter; however, we had a room facing the street, and despite the double glazing, it's advisable to bring earplugs. Our room was rustically furnished, spacious, and clean. While the furnishings were a bit dated, they were very well maintained. The bed was large, and the mattress was truly the best I've ever slept on. A refrigerator and TV were provided, along with a round table, two chairs, and a stool. There was also air conditioning, which was quite noisy in the "Ariel" room, whereas it was almost silent in the "Galatea" room. The room safe can be locked with a key, which, compared to a combination lock, has the advantage that there is only one key and no default number with which a combination lock could be opened even without knowledge of the number combination defined by the hotel guest. The bathroom was spacious and the shower water pressure was strong. The shower temperature could easily be adjusted to the desired level. The hotel staff were consistently very friendly and helpful; I would especially like to mention Nikita and Michelle, who also helped us with tour bookings and gave us useful tips about Playa del Carmen, particularly regarding restaurants. They organized our arrival and departure to and from Cancun airport (cost: 3000 pesos), and since our departure wasn't until the afternoon, we were able to store our luggage for a few hours after check-out. All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay and if we ever find ourselves back in Playa del Carmen, we would definitely choose the Hotel Lunata again.

Although the hotel is located on a very busy street—which, by the way, cannot be accessed by car—the soundproofing was excellent. The room was very beautiful, stylish, and well decorated. There is a cozy courtyard, and everything was clean and well maintained. The street itself is very noisy, but for a short stay and getting to know Playa del Carmen, it’s a perfect choice. The only odd thing was breakfast—when we arrived, there was only coffee and tea available, which felt quite strange

Very authentically, stylishly and thoughtfully designed hotel in the middle of everything. Close to the beach with very happily accommodating staff. Everything about staying in this place was excellent except the noise coming from the Quinta avenida. But this should be expected, considering the location.

Lovely hotel in a super central location in Playa del Carmen. The room is spacious and has everything you need and I liked the garden and their cute Christmas decoration. Every single staff member that I interacted with was very lovely and helpful and that really stood out to me. The downside of the location is the noise level coming from the street but that’s not the hotel’s fault and the price you pay and WiFi could be stronger. After three weeks in Mexico I also have to say I really appreciated the strong water pressure here which wasn’t a given in many other hotels. Overall, definitely recommend and good value for money.

We had a very pleasant stay. There is a lot of character to the building, they have a small garden which is amazing. The bathroom are very unique and looks pretty cool. The place is bang on the 5th Ave and is super accessible. If you are a light sleeper there may be a bit of party noise, this did not bother us though. The hotel staff(thanks Michelle )is super friendly and helped us with tips on great eating places around The water in the shower is warm and not hot and if you are experiencing extreme water pressure like we experienced reducing the flow rate to really low volume helps.
